Pitchford and Walker march on in Qatar

Liam Pitchford and Sam Walker showed their resilience to pick up a victory apiece and move to within one win of the main draw at the Qatar Open.

England No 1 Pitchford was first on court and although he never trailed against left-handed Iranian Noshad Alamiyan (WR66), he found his opponent hard to shake off, never more so than when Alamiyan saved two match points in the sixth.

However, Pitchford made no mistake when he had more match points in the decider, setting up a match against world No 70 Tomislav Pucar of Croatia. The match is at 2.20pm UK time.

Walker was up against another left-hander, Marcelo Aguirre of Paraguay, and he would himself 2-0 down against the world No 86. But Walker turned it around to win in six, taking the crucial fourth set 13-11 and moving away from there.

He is next on at 3pm against either Benedikt Duda of Germany or Sweden’s Anton Kallberg. You will be able to watch the match by clicking here.
