Jarvis wins thriller to set up Samsonov tie
Tom Jarvis beat top-100 player Robin Devos in a deciding seventh set to move into the last 32 of the Portugal Open and a tie against the great Vladimir Samsonov.
Jarvis came out on top 11-8 in the final game of a topsy-turvy match which he led 1-0 and 3-2 but trailed 2-1 to his Belgian opponent, who at No 100 is ranked 139 places above Jarvis and was the 23rd seed.
He plays fourth seed Samsonov, ranked No 23 in the world, this evening.
Paul Drinkhall, seeded 28, was eliminated by China’s Niu Guankai in six games.
